Taken by the Sharks..

Not us but the Warriors at Mt Smart which I watched on Livestream here in Pula - a young team outdone by a grinding opponent!

Having got over that disappointment we drove into Pula centre to have another poke around. The intention was to have a look at the marina/harbour area but it turned out to be no more than a port with a fair number of fishing vessels

Adjacent to the harbour was a monument to those who lost their lives in the Second World War as well as some individual statues

I tried to google Slavko to see why he was being honoured but struggled as most if not all pages were in Croatian, a language I am still to master.

A couple or so hours later and after having lunch which itself was a little amusing we returned to Pjescana Ulava - food typically we have found is not served hot as we would but more warm, so when we ordered burritos for lunch I asked for them to be hot, the attendant repeat "yes hot" and produced burritos that burnt our mouths. I don't know how he confused hot with chilli spicy but he did!

Today is our last day in Croatia so a final swim was in order at the local beach which again was well populated with young and old

As we walked to the left of the photo above we came across a spit in full use which made us wonder who and how many were being invited to dinner at this place tonight.

The youngsters appear to have no fear of the water entering where the depth is well over their heads and it is common to see tots with floaties on their arms in water that I can't touch the bottom - the worry is sometimes you look around and nobody appears to be watching them apart from yourself.

It is difficult to get over how clear the water is in these parts

And so our trip in Croatia or more particularly Istria comes to an end - will we come back? Yes, God willing. The people that we have spoken with are so friendly and obliging and at no time have we felt even remotely unsafe. When you add on top of that the sunshine, the scenery and the coast then you almost have the perfect package.

Tomorrow we return to Italy, a trip to Trieste of around 120kms the only downside of which maybe the time we spend at the Croatian/Slovenian border if the queue that we saw when we crossed the other way last Sunday is any indication (See 26 July post "Stressful")

Zbogom Hrvatska!
