Nostalgia

Today had a bit of that.

The Rock and Roll Liverpool Marathon was run today around the streets of Liverpool city centre and watching the competitors crossing the finish line in various states of distress brought back memories of the marathons I had run

The run took the competitors up Mathews St passed the Cavern Club though as this was around the 10 mile mark not a lot of them would have been looking around at the various clubs which were the scene in the early 1960s of the start of the Beatles craze

Entering the Cavern Club certainly took one back in time and the experience was heightened by the old music being piped in the background

The rest of the afternoon was spent in and around Albert Docks which was also the finish area for the run.

Waiting to enter the docks were 6 "narrow boats" which are approx. 45 feet long and used on the various canals around the UK - speaking to one of the owners of a vessel we learnt that there were approx. 3000 miles of canals in the UK and that a new narrow boat would cost around £60,000 with annual running costs of £2,000.

Late in the afternoon we went back to the apartment to watch the cricket and were pleased to witness the Black Caps beat England in the 3rd ODI of the series with centuries from Williamson and Taylor.

Tomorrow we move on to Cumbria
