You don't have to eat spinach to be pop-eyed!

Mrs GPS had a tantrum this morning as we departed Liverpool brought on by some road realignments which she had obviously not been told about.

After going around in circles we decided to ignore her and trust our own instincts which proved the right thing to do as soon we were back on the M6 heading north to The Lakes District.

Once we left the M6 the scenery changed markedly. The first thing we noticed were that the farm fences were made of stone and extended as far as the eye could see.

We then passed through Windermere a town of some beauty and not long after arrived at Waterhead, being a very small settlement at the head of Lake Windermere the largest lake in England.

We parked the vehicle and then headed off on foot to Ambleside about 1 mile down the road and where we had booked accommodation for the next two days.
Ambleside is a town where all of the buildings are made of stone and most have been standing for 200 years (according to the local stonemason).
The beauty is eye popping!
There are numerous outdoor shops catering for hikers and the like who obviously use this town as a base for their adventures in the local area & as a consequence the town has a feel similar to a Swiss mountain village.
Our accommodation is at Haven Cottage and we have scored an exquisite double room with adjacent sitting room/lounge - we have now over our 3 trips stayed at a variety of B&Bs, guest houses or similar throughout Europe and the UK and this one is the best of them all!!

The locals also have a sense of humour!

Tomorrow it is off to visit Beatrix Potter and also have a walk around Windermere Village

An Ambleside guest house.
